Privacy policy

Last updated 8 October 2026

Mink’s Aperture is a hobby photography project based in Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia. This page explains what personal information I handle, why, and the choices you have. In short: I collect very little, I don’t follow you around the web, and you can ask me to remove a photo of you at any time.

Who is responsible

Mink’s Aperture (“I”, “me”) operates this website. For anything on this page, contact me at contact@minksaperture.com.

What I collect

  • Photographs. I photograph community events with the knowledge of the organisers and in line with each venue’s photography policy. A photo that shows you is your personal information, and because of the events I cover it may also suggest something sensitive about you, such as your sexuality or the communities you belong to.
  • Messages you send me. If you use the contact form, email me or message me on Instagram, I receive your name or handle, your contact details and whatever you write. Contact form messages are stored privately until I have dealt with them.
  • Testimonials. If you give me a quote about working with me and agree to it being published, the homepage shows your words with the name or handle and role you approved. Ask at any time and I will edit or remove it.
  • Favourites and hearts. If you heart a photo in a gallery, the site stores that against a random, anonymous id kept in a cookie on your device. It is used to remember your favourites and to show how many hearts a photo has. It isn’t linked to your name or any account, and other visitors see only the totals.
  • Cookies. When you unlock a gallery or heart a photo, a cookie remembers that on your device. See the cookie policy.
  • Protection against password guessing. Password attempts and contact form submissions are counted for a short time against a scrambled version of your network address, so repeated guesses can be blocked. The address itself is not stored.
  • Technical logs. The companies that host this site and its photos automatically record standard request details such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request.
  • Visit statistics. I use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies and doesn’t follow you between sites or from one day to the next. It records the page visited, the site you came from, your country, and your browser and device type, and I only see the totals.

This site has no advertising, no social media trackers and no account sign-up.

How I use it

  • To share event photos with the people who were there, through private, password-protected galleries.
  • To show a small selection of work on the public pages of this site as a portfolio.
  • To reply to enquiries, bookings and removal requests.
  • To keep the site secure and working.

I do not sell personal information or share it for marketing.

How photos are protected

  • Event galleries are private. Each one needs a password that is shared only with that event’s community.
  • Gallery pages ask search engines not to index them.
  • Photo files are kept in private storage and served through temporary links that expire.
  • Repeated wrong passwords from the same network are temporarily blocked.

No online system is perfectly secure, and I can’t control what someone does with a photo after they download it. If you see a photo of you being misused, tell me and I will help where I can.

Who else handles the data

I rely on a small number of service providers, who process data only to provide their service:

  • Vercel hosts the website and provides the visit statistics.
  • Cloudflare stores and delivers the photo files.
  • My email provider and Instagram, if you contact me through them.

These providers operate servers outside Australia, including in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed overseas.

How long I keep it

Galleries stay online until I retire them or a removal is requested. Messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for my own records. The gallery cookie expires after 30 days and the favourites cookie after one year.

Your choices and rights

  • Removal. You can ask me to take down any photo of you, without giving a reason. See photo removal.
  • Access and correction. You can ask what information I hold about you and ask me to correct it.
  • Not being photographed. Tell me at an event, or follow the event’s own no-photo system, and I will respect it.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have rights under the GDPR, including to object to or restrict processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. I rely on your consent or on my legitimate interest in documenting and sharing community events, balanced against your right to have photos removed.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please contact me first. In Australia you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Age

This site is intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
